Fishing Report: San Luis Reservoir January 13, 2018

My first striper trip for 2018 with Brett, Teng and Nick at San Luis Reservoir. Water temperature was in the 56 degree range with foggy skies that didn't allow any sunlight penetration plus the cold. The fishing was tough.  They were on a different bite but we managed to shake off the skunk with 8 striped bass to 23". We fished all depths from 30' to 250' of water. We started fishing Lone Oak Bay initially with nothing to show for. Started shallow and slowly worked our way deeper. Didn't mark much until we…Read more …

San Luis Reservoir Fishing Report December 30 2017

Today I fished with some of the fam at San Luis Reservoir.  What a way to end the year with 35+ stripers. According to the park gate attendant, only a handful of boaters were able to land stripers of the 35 boats that launched out of the Basalt side.  So what did we do differently from the majority that helped us end the year with a bang? Most of the time when I fish San Luis Reservoir,  I'll go off what's working from the previous trip and figure out the bite from there. …Read more …
When Fishing Unites A Community

When Fishing Unites A Community

Fishing has always been an escape for me.  My way of getting away from the world.  That adrenaline rush I get when I hookup.  The pull on my line, rod bending and drag screaming makes me forget about all my problems.    What I didn't realize was, fishing can create and unite an entire community as well.   When you bring together a group of people who share a common set of values and beliefs, they have the ability to form communities or cultures. We’ve formed a family culture at FishAholics.  Where you can…Read more …

A Special Place For A FAmily Of FishAholics

There’s a recurring pattern I see over and over again when we host our events.  It’s this pattern of going back to our roots.  The reason why we began fishing.  Here’s what I mean. Often when I see heated debate it’s about what a fisherman does.  From taking a big fish home to showing a specific technique or rig to eating a particular species of fish, it’s always about what one does.  We’re so focused on what we do, we forget the commonality that connects us all.  The reason why we began fishing…Read more …
Striper Boils at San Luis Reservoir

Striper Boils at San Luis Reservoir

Sometimes you just have to make the best out of a bad situation.  On a recent trip, that's exactly what my cousin Chia and I did. It was still dark as I towed my boat towards San Luis Reservoir which is about 10 miles west of Los Banos.  Driving west on CA 152, we were surprised when we saw lighting in the distance.  Rain wasn't in the forecast!  At least that's what the weather man said. We kept going hoping it'd move on or stop by the time we reached the lake.  As…Read more …
