Fishing Report: San Luis Reservoir February 24, 2018

Everything went well this morning when Teng, Nick and I arrived at San Luis Reservoir.  The lake was calm and the sun wasn't completely out yet. We went over to Portuguese cove and immediately Nick hooks into a striper on the Atlas Rig.  A couple minutes later another striper on!  Hey the bites going to be good today!   We fished the bottom in 40ish feet of water.  We'd have situations where solo stripers are marked.  Then as if on cue, it'd be fish on moments later.  The majority of fish caught in…Read more …
Downrigging For Stripers

Downrigging For Stripers

Imagine access to a part of the lake with little to no fishing pressure.  A honey hole that you alone have the keys to.  I believe downriggers can unlock you to these new fishing grounds that have seldom been touched.  Learn to use downriggers and how to target stripers in the deep.  It's a definite game changer. In this post, I’ll be showing you how to get started using downriggers to catch striped bass. What Is A Downrigger Imagine a rod and reel bolted to the side of the boat.  At the end…Read more …

Fishing Report: San Luis Reservoir February 11, 2018

When I take FishAholics members fishing on my boat or when I fish out there solo, I’ve never been able to stay consistent with the number of striped bass caught out of San Luis Reservoir.  Some trips I’ll be in the 20-30 stripers caught and the very next visit I’ll be in the single digits to low 10’s.  It’s never consistent.  But I’ve been fortunate in keeping my catching consistent.  I think experience plays a role but the ability to use a rig that mimics a school of bait fish like the Atlas…Read more …

Fishing Report: San Luis Reservoir February 5, 2018

It was 10:30pm and found out I had a babysitter the next day. So a last minute fishing trip to San Luis Reservoir was in store.  It’s been warmer than normal the past few days plus with all the reports from members on FishAholics, it looked like the striper bite was great in the shallows.  I figure I’d try shallower fishing the big lake. I got to San Luis Reservoir a little late and the sun was already up.  I tried Lone Oak Bay right away using a planar board with the Atlas…Read more …

Fishing Report: San Luis Reservoir January 27, 2018

My last time out to San Luis Reservoir was two weeks ago and it was cold, cloudy and foggy.  We didn't do so good with only 8 catches.  Fishing was slow. Conditions yesterday were completely different.  The sun was out, no clouds and it was warm in the afternoon.  We managed 20 fish to 24".  Downrigging with the Atlas rigs have kept me consistent when fishing San Luis Reservoir.  I'll explain why in a bit but first how our trip went. I went out with Daniel and David.  We started our morning by…Read more …
